Kansas City-Jazz Era-18th and Vine Tote Bag

Kansas City-Jazz Era-18th and Vine Tote Bag

Regular price $12.99 Sale

In the 1920s and 30s Kansas City was known as the "Paris of the Plains" due to it's lax liquor laws and jazz clubs that stayed open all night long (thanks to political boss Tom Pendergast who also just happened to own the wholesale liquor business that supplied the clubs). KC became known for it's own unique style of jazz that marked a change from the big band sound to a more loose improvisational style of Bebop.

Some of the musicians who received the most fame were Bennie Moten, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Jay McShann, and Big Joe Turner, just to name a few.

And some of the clubs featured here that were a prominent part of that scene were Dante's Inferno, the Pla-Mor Ballroom, the Drum Room, the Chesterfield Club, the New Harlem Nite Club and the Hey Hey Club.

Matching prints and tea towels are also available here.
